A tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) is a narrative game in which players take on the role of fictional characters and experience adventures together. A game master guides the group through the story while the players make decisions, solve problems and interact with the world. Dice are often used to determine the success of actions.

We focus a lot on consequence and transformation.

The world in Shards of Gods is not guided by living gods, divine mandates, or constant intervention. The gods are shattered. Power often comes from something that used to be divine, and using it changes your character over time. It’s less about leveling into a fixed role and more about how your choices shape what you become.

The game uses a roll-under system tied directly to attributes, and things like exhaustion or Shards influence how reliable your character really is in the long run.

If you enjoy systems where narrative and mechanics constantly push against each other a bit, that’s where SoG really shines.

At the heart of the game are three major gameplay systems that reinforce narrative choice and consequence:

1. The Shardbound System
2. Godshard Encounters
3. Evolving Items

We built the system in a modular way, so new players don’t need to learn everything at once. You can introduce additional mechanics step by step as the group gets comfortable.

The core is very straightforward: you roll a D20 and try to stay under your attribute. From there, complexity builds through systems like Shards and Evolving Items, as well as optional rules such as Attribute Exhaustion, depending on how much depth your group prefers.

So you can run it fairly light and narrative-focused, or lean into the more tactical side over time.

The game is designed for 4-5 players. Another person acts as the game master (GM). This person guides the others through the adventure as they try to achieve a common goal.

This is our recommended player count, excluding the Gamemaster, as we balanced encounters etc. around this number of players.

It is your game though, so you can, of course, mix it up as you like. This is especially true for any adventures you create by using our Worldbuilding Book.

The game will be expanded in the future with new, optional content and products that can be integrated at will. Currently, the team is 100% focused on the core game.
